Garden tea party with Slippery Slope - all very genteel
Slippery Slope © Joe Black-Ardy
“More tea vicar?” That is tea in proper bone china cups and there’s a winning Victoria sponge on a cake stand. A hum of bees can be observed visiting the blooms spread through the herbaceous border and it’s one of those bucolic afternoons when one finds oneself thinking that there really is no better time and place than summertime in Herefordshire.

Listen up and, above the gentle murmur of the grannies and the kids, you will notice a gentle semi-acoustic music is floating across from the stage which is, as it should be, festooned with bunting. Four friends/two couples are singing to the sound of an accordion, guitar, fiddle and yes, a steel drum. The complex harmonic ‘plang’ of the steelpan takes you to even warmer climes, the thought of carnival in Trinidad, and in some time or maybe no time at all, you’re in front of the stage and beginning to sway.

C'est toujours l'été with Slippery Slope.
