‘Pa Fordson’ - Richard to his friends - is a stalwart of the Wild Hare Club, either marshalling his latest band on stage or sometimes carefully mixing the sound from the desk at the back. Both Them Boonies (his former band with local singing legend Kate Hardy) and The Fordsons have appeared at the Wild Hare Club. The latter’s music is rooted in the folk ballads and traditional tunes imported to the USA by immigrants from the British Isles and so The Fordsons take their influence from the popular old-time music of the 1920s and 30s. Music made famous in the recordings of The Skillet Lickers, Charlie Poole, Red Fox Chasers and The Carter Family to name just a few. The content of their ol’ time mountain music is morally good, which makes them a slightly different proposition from say The Urban Voodoo Machine. As I’ve written before, The Wild Hare Club is a broad church.
